5 Steps to Keep Your Health in Check - Women’s Health Guide

The 20th annual National Women's Health Week kicked off on Mother's Day, and is celebrated through May 18, 2019. According to the official website, this week serves as a reminder for women to make their health a priority and build positive health habits for life. That said, we're sharing our tips for women to keep their health in check!

1. Daily Exercise

The first and probably the most important method to stay healthy is to exercise every day. Being active is the best way for every woman to maintain her health. Also, it is the best protection to help keep any diseases at bay. According to a research study, regular physical activity is clearly effective in the prevention of cardiovascular disease and is effective in attenuating the risk of premature death among women.

However, exercise will not only improve women’s cardiovascular health. It will also help to maintain a healthy weight, body mass index, and lower the risk for occurrence of breast cancer, and colon cancer. Additionally, fitness and exercise can aid in regulating hormones in the body. The domino effect of this is a lower risk for cancer and other serious health conditions. Therefore, it is wise for women to exercise on a daily basis. Taking fitness classes, yoga, Zumba, bodybuilding, or other physical activities can optimize the overall health and wellbeing of every woman.

2. Maintain a Healthy Diet

One of the main components of having a good health condition is to have a healthy diet. To be more specific, it is crucial to eat healthy every day. For example, a proper women’s diet should be abundant in essential nutrients. A nutrition program that includes colorful fruits and vegetables is the main shield to prevent and lower the risk of breast cancer and other obesity issues.

Furthermore, it is wise to consume fresh, whole foods, and organic when possible. That way the ever-increasing chemical agents that are present in processed foods can be avoided. Processed foods are known to contain a high level of trans-fats, saturated fats, processed sugar, and sodium.  Therefore, a recommended healthy diet should be based on two elements: consume fresh nutrient-rich foods and avoid fried and processed food blends.

3. Observe Your Health

Observing and checking your health is one of the main catalysts for protecting your wellbeing. In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, most women are living a busy life. However, it is imperative to maintain a healthy lifestyle. On that note, it is important to emphasize that regular doctor check-ups are also a significant part of healthy living. These regular doctor meetings can have a galvanizing effect on preventing the possibility of common health issues that women face. It's also important to note that one-in-eight women tend to suffer from breast cancer. However, if it is detected early, it can be treated with success. Therefore, women should often have mammogram scans in order to discover the problem in the early stage so that it can be solved on the fast track.

4. Stay Hydrated
Every woman should be aware of the importance of staying hydrated, since our bodies are made up of around 60% of water. Even more concerning, studies have shown that even mild dehydration (1-3% of body weight) can impair many aspects of brain function. Losing as little as 2% of your body's water content can significantly impair physical performance. Also, water helps to flush toxic waste from the body and aid in digestion, thus optimizing the internal body health. Take a water bottle with you wherever you go. It is the simplest way that will keep you hydrated.

5. Stay Positive
A strong self-belief is one of the catalysts for success in maintaining a healthy body and mind. Many women have a heard enough time putting their own health first, let alone when you add spouses, children, jobs, etc. These additional stressors can wreck havoc on more than just your body, but your mind. It's important to give yourself the credit you deserve, even when you don't feel you do. Reward yourself when you accomplish goals and try to avoid beating yourself up when you don't.

All in all, during a woman’s lifetime, a host of conditions can arise. From the various physical and health challenges to the overall mental wellbeing, and these elements can have a significant effect on women’s health.
